The Kosmos Pen by Stilform

There have been a lot of pens on Kickstarter over the years. In fact if you search “pen” on Kickstarter you will get a result of 932 projects. Literally hundreds of projects for pens… So many designers and entrepreneurs have started their small business by starting a campaign on Kickstarter for a pen. Because there have been so many pens on Kickstarter, there are very few that catch my eye anymore. But the Kosmos pen by Stilform is different and recently caught my attention.

The Kosmos pen is minimal at first glance, but intricate in the details behind the design. It has a soft familiar appearance that makes you want to pick it up and use it. The pen uses magnets to open and close it. The magnets are balanced perfectly to either hold the pen open or closed with a nice snapping action to go between.

Each pen is made of aluminum and anodized in colors to match the Apple products. The Galaxy Gold and Rose Moon colors will only be available during the Kistarter Campaign. The Star Silver and Comet Grey will be the standard colors. They just reached a stretch goal that unveiled a fifth color they are calling Night Sky. Each of these colors are brilliant on their own, and I love that they match the beauty of Apple products.

One of the cool things about the pen is that it was designed using the Golden Ratio principle. Their Kickstarter video explains the theory behind the design of the pen very well. But in general it is a ratio that we find throughout nature that mathematics has shown to be universal.

The Kosmos pen is doing well on Kickstarter. There are only a few more days left of their campaign and then the Galaxy Gold and Rose Moon color options will no longer be available.

Overall I really love the design of this pen. I love seeing so much creativity and thought that goes into even the small details of a product like this. Seeing these details really show me the heart and desire of the designers. The guys over at Stilform truly have the desire for good design and creative products. I will definitely continue to follow their work in.
